HAKO is pleased to announce to present an installation of MOON ROCK, the latest collections of new work by Levi Pata.
MOON ROCK
There are 2 methods to obtain moon rocks here on earth:
1. To find those that enter our atmosphere and fall as meteorites.
2. To go to the moon via rocket and bring them back.
Either way, moon rocks are incredibly valuable things. They have been studied by scientists in order to find out more about the moon’s history, our solar system’s origin, and thus, our own.
After selecting these specific works, I was reminded of moon rocks─ as containing familiar elements, but being arranged in a way that somehow becomes new to me. When I create art, it’s like a dream─ some of the things I see in it I know intimately, but others are completely mysterious, even though existing in my own consciousness. The essence of art and life is the unknown, and painting is just one form of materializing this mystery. In my own way, I guess I am creating moon rocks. So, I guess it turns out there are actually 3 ways to get them here on earth.

Levi Pata
Born 1985, in Hollister, California. Lived in Tokyo from 2009, until returning to San Francisco, California in 2011. Moved to Kyoto in 2016. Currently lives in Kyoto, and exhibits work in various places in Japan. Solo exhibitions include: "Continuous Gunfire and Greek Music" (FOIL Gallery, Tokyo, 2011), "black cherry" (AL, Tokyo, 2018), and various others. Art works and poetry incorporated into Japanese designer TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist brand's 2019 FW collection, "1ONE MY WAY," debuted at Paris fashion week (January, 2019). Art book, "from a small room" (2015), and postcard book, "ANOTHER SUNSET" (2016) published by HeHe.

MOON ROCK
地球で月の石を手に入れる方法は２つある。
1. 地球の大気を通り抜けて、隕石として落ちてきたものを探す。
2. ロケットで月に行って、石を持って帰ってくる。
どちらにしても、月の石はとても貴重なものだ。科学者達は月の歴史や太陽系の起源、すなわち僕たちの起源を知るために、月の石を研究をしてきた。 今回の展示の作品を選んだ後に、なぜか僕は月の石のことを思っていた。同じ要素で成り立っていても、構成が違うと、新しく感じる。僕がアートを作るときの感覚は、夢を見ているのに似ている。ある部分はすごく親しみを感じるけど、ある部分は自分の意識の中に存在するのに、全く不可解だったりする。未知こそがアートや人生の本質であり、絵を描くことはその神秘を形にする一つの手段だと思う。僕は僕なりの方法で月の石を作っているのかもしれない。そしたら、地球で月の石を手に入れる方法は３つあることになるか。

リーバイ・パタ
1985年ホリスター（カリフォルニア）生まれ。2009年から2年間東京で活動、その後サンフランシスコへ戻る。2016年、京都へ移住。現在京都を拠点に制作活動をおこなっている。個展に、2011年「鳴り響く銃声とギリシャの音楽」（FOIL GALLERY、東京）、2018年「black cherry」（AL、東京）、2019年「TO: TODAY」（haku、京都）など。2019年1月パリコレで発表されたTAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloistの2019FWコレクション「1ONE MY WAY」のデザインに自身の作品が使用された。本に、作品集「小さい部屋から」、ポストカードブック「ANOTHER SUNSET」、（HeHe出版)。
